He was born February 20, 1911, in Harrisburg, a son of Roy George and Clara Mae Younkin Turns. Mr.Turns was Methodist. He was a charter member of the Bobtown Polish Club and Rod and Gun Club, Bobtown. He also was a member of United Mine Workers of America Local 6159. Mr. Turns retired after 50 years of service from Shannopin Mine, Bobtown. He was a resident of Bobtown for the past 75 years and was interested in the history of his community and country. He enjoyed traveling to historical sites. Surviving are a son, Robert W. Turns Jr. of Bobtown; a daughter, Joan Turns Dingle of Bobtown, with whom he made his home; four grandchildren, Douglas E. Malone, Lee Marvin Dingle, Tina Turns Terrell and Robin Turns Donley; six great grandchildren; two sisters, Josephine Darby of Cypress, Texas, and June Darby of Farmland, Ind.; and many nieces and nephews. Deceased are his wife, Mary Daniels Turns, who died in 1975; two grandchildren, David C. Malone and Bobbi Jo Turns, sister, Jean Trump; and two brothers, Ralph and James Turns. Private interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Mount Pleasant. |
