James W. Swan

James W. Swan, 92, of Longwood, Fla., passed away Sunday, April 22, 2001, at the South Seminole Hospital at Longwood, Fla. He was born March 6, 1909, in Connellsville, a son of the late James W. and Anna Younkin Swan.

He was a graduate of Connellsville High School in 1926, and of the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy. He was the owner of Swans Drug Store in Connellsville, leaving in 1947, and going to Florida where he operated drug stores in Orlando and West Palm Beach. He was also a citrus grower operating Swans Grove III Inc. He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons and of Shrine. He was a Protestant by faith. Surviving are two sons, Jack W. Swan and wife Pat of Dundee, Fla., and James F. Swan of West Palm Beach; two grandchildren; Michael Swan and Patrice Ferguson, both of Atlanta, Ga.; also numerous nieces and nephews survive. Mr. Swan was the last surviving member of his immediate family, being predeceased by his parents; his wife, Etta J. Swan in 1998; brothers, Robert E. Swan, William H. Swan and Elmer M. (Bud) Swan; and a sister, Thelma Goulker.

Friends will be received in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday where service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Byron Tate Fulton officiating. Committal and interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park.
