I found this message during a search of the VA-SOUTHSIDE archives. Elizabeth
was the widow of Peter Elder, who was the first of her three husbands. But the
Presley connection was news to me. Anyone have any details?

<< Edward MORRIS, son of Anthony and Dorthy (SANFORD) MORRIS, was born in Va.
He married Elizabeth in Northumberland Co., Va. in 1687. Elizabeth was
either Elizabeth Presley and the widow of Peter Elder or the widow of ?
Presley and the daughter of Peter Elder. They had nine children, and I need
information about them also. Does anyone connect with this family?

Mary,
Earliest record I have is when Dumah Elder joined the Union army in August of
1864. There he states he was from Hawkins, OH. Later in an 1880 Arkansas
census he states he was from PA. He was first married to Mary Ann Reece (my
line) and later during the Civil War to Rosilla Ziegler also from PA. Mary
Ann died during the winter of 1864/65 in Louisville, KY according to a letter
her son William Henry Elder wrote to help Rosilla get a pension for her and
Dumah's minor children.

If you have any ideas of where to look or any help at all it would be greatly
appreciated. A cousin in Kansas has done most of the research at the LDS and
can't find anything either.

Does anyone have ANYTHING on the parents of a Joshua Elder born 1763 in Cape
Elizabeth, Maine and died 22 January 1846 in Dexter, Maine. He was a
Revolutionary War soldier, and he married Joanna Roberts on 16 December 1784.
They had five (5) children: William, Charles, Richard, Joshua, and Joanna.

Reply to all,
I have read several e-mails on the Elders, Anyone out there? I do believe
it is a good idea to have everyone help with the postings and work on the
"stuck" lines. I am doing research on the John Elder/Margaret McHenry line
and the Bailey/Elder line as well as the Hixenbaugh/Bailey and Williams/Willey
lines. Thank you.

Subject: [Elder-News]: Elder Ohio Patents

From: "Thomas Wilson" <twilson@pathwaynet.com>

I have Thomas Jefferson Elder, leaving Seneca County, Ohio in 1842 for
Koskuisco County, Indiana. I went into the Bureau of Land Management
records and found six 80 acre land patents to Elders in Seneca County as
follows:
1. William Elder, May 14, 1824, for the E1/2 of the NE1/4 Section 23,
Township 3 North, Range 16 East ..
2. Henry Elder, March 13, 1828, for the W1/2 of the SE1/4 of Section 32,
Township 2 North, Range 15 East.
3. Samuel Elder, December 6, 1830, for the W1/2 of the SE1/4 of Section
25, Township 3 North, Range 16 East.
4. Joseph Elder, March 6, 1829, for the W1/2 of the SW1/2 of Section 29,
Township 2 North, Range 14 East.
5. George W. Elder, May 5, 1832, for the W1/2 of the SE1/4 of Section 27,
Township 3 North, Range 16 East.
6. Thomas I. Elder, May 5, 1832, for the E1/2 of the NE1/4 of Section 27,
Township 3 North, Range 16 East.

Now I would think that since my Thomas Elder was born in Ohio in around
1802 and was llving there in Seneca County until 1842, that one or more of
these Elders was related to him. Any connections out there.

Thank you for the e-mail. I am looking forward to receiving the promised

Thomas Wilson, "Hello" stick around someone will know. I have drifted most
of this year, but I am back on the Elder's again. So many here know so much
and all of them are so willing to share. My Mother died last Spring,
although it was not a surprise, she had spent 1 year and three months in a
nursing home, and she was lucid enough to know she "could not leave". Ann

Ann,

I don't think your Matthew Elder is in my line, and I don't recall running
across him in the Magee Family History. However, the material in this book is
extensive, and only have copies of portions of it. That is why I am eager for
the opportunity to get the whole book in the second printing that Harry
announced.

Hi,
I am new to this list. I live in Michigan and I am researching my
grandmother's family in Texas.

Her name was Icie Bernice Elders. She was born in Parker Co. Tx on
6/1/1896. She married Albert B. Majors on 1/1/1915 in Parker Co. and she
died 2/10/1968 in Palo Pinto Co. Tx.

Her father and mother were:

J. A. Elders (b. abt 1863 in AL - d. before 1939 in TX)
Nancy A. McCarthey (b. abt 1860 in TX - d. ?)

She had 2 or 3 brothers that I know of and 1 sister.

Robert L. Elders (b. abt 1887)
Jesse A. (Doc) Elders (b. abt 1897)
Jonnie Elders (b. abt 1895)
Gertrude Elders (b. after 1896, m. Dayton Hollman)

I believe J.A. Elders was a cotton farmer. I have an old postcard from
Walter Stephnes Cotton Ginery addressed to J. A. Elders, Milsap, TX, with
the following writing on the back " This gin is open for business, and
always ready to gin your cotton and treat you nice. Your friend Walter
Stephnes". It was postmarked from Milsap, TX.

Icie had 7 children, the youngest was my mother, Barbara Ann Majors, b.
7/10/1938 in Mineral Wells, Palo Pinto Co. TX. My mother has Icie's old
family bible, which doesn't contain much info except on Icie's parents.

There are many Elders buried in Po Prairie Cemetary in Bennett, TX. I have
the headstones on videotape and I am planning to put them on a CD.

I think Jesse (Doc) Elders worked at Acme Brick in Bennett, TX. I have a
picture of him there. I have many pictures of Elders that I am planning to
put on a web page as soon as time allows.

If anyone knows these Elders, let me know.

Cindi Lada

Icie is buried next to Albert in Sturdivent Cemetary, Palo Pinto Co.

Hi Cindi:

I coouldn't find any of your family in my computer. I have over 53,000 names of
several Elder families in several directories. If you could go back one more
generation from J. A. Elder and wife I may be able to help you. My family
came from Alabvama to Texas in 1897 and my gandfather and great grandfather
were from Alabama. They came to Alabama from Georgia in 1800's. Hope to hear
from you. I have two Icy Elder ladies but they did not marry a Majors.

I have been trying to find information on Thomas Elder, who was listed
on the 1850 Russell Co., KY census. Included in the family were: Thomas
Elder, age 28, b NC: Elizabeth, 23, b KY; Granville, 2, b KY; Zerrilda,
1, b KY; Umrah?, 5/12, b KY; and Polly, 60 yrs, b VA. From Zerrilda
Elder Emmett's death certificate, at Springfield, IL, it stated that her
mother's maiden name was Elizlabeth Jones. I could not find Thomas
Elder on the 1860 census for the several counties that I checked in KY.
Does anyone have any information on this THOMAS ELDER?
