Hi, Linda,

So, besides being related via Asher and Brandom, you also have Elders?
Which line? I am descended from Robert Elder, b. 1679 at Elderslie, near
Paisley Renfrewshire in lowland courntry about six miles from Glasgow,
Scotland, and died Jul 28, 1746 in Paxtang Township, Lancaster (now Dauphin)
County, PA. So that makes me a descendant of the well-researched Paxtang
Elders.

I am researching the following surnames: Aertse/Jacobsen/VanWogenin/Pels,

Hi again,
My John Henry Starr (1812-1875) married first Mary ELDER, daughter of
Joshua and Anna Gray who married in Clarke Co. GA 1812. Lee has this line
backed into early Richmond Co. VA (I think -- this is from top of my head).
I promised last fall to "correct" his STARR data and had health problems
before I got around to it. Now he's sending the data by snail for me to
correct for his next update. I once thought my line was part of the Paxtang
group so have lots on them, but that was when I thought my STARRs were the
PA Quakers too. Lots of things change over the years.

Do you connect back in Renfrewshire to any CRAWFORD / POAGE / RANKINs?
I have copies of a couple pages from a book on Renfrewshire history which
mentions all those surnames -- mine in early Augusta Co. VA? Linda

Larry,
Thanks for the offer re: look ups. I may get back to you when I get
to those lines ... I looked through your "other" surnames and only BANKs,
HENDRICKS, CLEMENT -- do you connect to Mark Twain? I have his line to
MOORMAN connection <g>, KERR -- marriage of Letitia to Wm Robertson in
Augusta Co. VA (or at least they moved to and d. there; RICE -- seems like
two lines (one to KY and connected by marriage to CLAYCOMB or HICKMAN and
then CLAYCOMB and the other in VA early 1700s with marriage to an OGLETREE;

     BANKs is an allied line/just neighbors to my TRAYLORs in VA and GA;
HENDRICKS connect to my MOORMAN/CLARKs in colonial VA as does CLEMENTs.

Do you see any connection??

I will be glad to look up some of your family. Let me know if you are in
the Pennsylvania Group, or the Kentucky group, or the Maryland group. or
my group which is the South Elder family starting with Peter Elder
1650's in Virginia, going on to Georgia in 1807 and then to Tennessee,
NC.,
Arkansas, Missouri, and Texas.
I have 53,000 names in all of my computer and can look up names very
easy. Give me your earliest relative's name and date of birth and wife
if you have it.

I have asked before, but with new subscribers maybe someone has some
information:
William 'Billy' Elder and his wife Martha 'Patsy' Moore left North
Carolina where they were wed in Randolph County on 5 August 1810.
Who were their parents? Siblings?
They moved to Overton County, Tennessee. They are both buried there in
the family cemetery on Rockey Ridge where they had their land. He died
in 1864 and she died after that.
They were parents of Robert, John, Allen, Salinda, Sarah, Margartet,
Manisa and James. Not in this order. I am sure that Robert is the
eldest and Manisa is the youngest. They were all born in Overton
County, Tennessee.
Robert migrated to Oregon, James to Texas, John stayed in Tennessee and
Allen went to Georgia and back to Tennessee.
Thanks for your help. Diane Elder elder@presys.com

Oh Launa, I am so glad your son read the message, I am sure he was a bit
confused, it is funny. Tell John Henry we have 200 years + named John Henry,
Samuel Henry.........do you know anything about that particular family? She
is a delightful lady but has not been able to move in a long time.

Keep watching John Henry, your name will probably pop up again, Happy
Valentine's Day to you and your Mother (and all the rest).

Launa, I am still trying, getting no where for now.

Their was a David Elder who was positively related to the Elder's in GA, I
think he moved on I tried to work my way through some notes last night and
realized it was just "stuff"........

Thanks for writing, it is nice to know someone has a smile, we all need a
smile.

Hi Diane,
Is this the Allen W.(M) ELDER living in Marion County, Georgia in the
1870 Census with wife Elizabeth J. & children William E. and Anna M.? I
have been wondering where he came from. He had Real property worth 1600
dollars and two farm hands living with him. I was pulling my hair out
(not that I had much to pull) trying to find out where he came from and
where he went.

Thanks for the enlightment.

Subject: [Elder-News]: New Structure for the List

From: Donna Younkin Logan <mactech@intrepid.net>
Date: Mon, 09 Feb 1998 00:07:47 -0500

Hi Folks

This afternoon my boss re-structured the Elder-News Sharing List ..... now
only members of the list will be allowed to post messages. This will help
eliminate some of the garbage messages (spam) we've gotten in the past but
it won't stop them all. Some of these jerks will still be able to post, but
they will have to join to the list first, send their message, then get off.
(Hopefully most will be too lazy to go to all this trouble!)

What does this mean for the rest of us....... you will need to ALWAYS send
your messages to the list from the EXACT address you subscribed with. If
you aren't sure what that address was (I know some of you send messages from
various addresses), please contact me at the "fanfare@intrepid.net" address
and I will send you a list of the 128 email addresses on the list and you
should recognize your email within the list.
Thanks for your help with this ........ I think it will make things easier
on us and our mailboxes.

- donna (List Mom)

ps ..... I am sending this via one of my work email address, please don't
use this to contact me, send private email to: fanfare@intrepid.net

Jim. I promise I will send you what information I have n Allen Elder.
That is the son of William and Martha---Billy and Patsy. He left GEo
and moved back to Tennessee and is there buried. I have a photograph of
his grave. It is not very good and the light was bad and the stone is
very faint. It will probably be next weekend before I get this project
done...have a demanding job during the week and come home exhausted
every night. Thanks for your patience. Diane

Subject: [Elder-News]: New Webb Page Addition

From: Dan Elder <dan.elder@fbcvidalia.org>
Date: Tue, 10 Feb 1998 18:47:57 -0500

Hi folks,

Dan Elder here, of the Grayson County, KY, clan.

Donna has recently posted a summary of the Grayson County clan history on the Elder Family home page. You'll find the new link under the 'pictures' header. If you'd rather go direct this, URL is:

http://www.intrepid.net/genealogy/elder/grayson/

I hope it may help someone. Perhaps one of you could also help me if you recognize the pioneers at the beginning of the story. I'm still trying to make the family connection back to PA before 1798. I would love to hear from anyone who has a solid lead or a good hunch.

In the meantime, I hope others will enjoy reading another piece of the fsmily puzzle.

					Thanks.	:-)

Hi Bob:
I have William Elder b. 1783 married to Rebecca Cate and they had 8
children. the third child was Charles Elder b. 1807 c. 1871 and his
wife was Elizabeth Underwood and they had 6 children and she died. Then
he married Mrs. Rachel N. (Bryan) Keener and they had two children and
they were Charles Thomas Elder b. 1866 and Rebecca N. Elder b. 1866.
I don't have anything on Rebecca but I do know that her parents died and
she and Thomas were raised by her older sister Nancy.
I have this family back to the 1650's to Pete Elder.
Send me the family of Rebecca N. Elder on down to your family and I will
make a page and add it to my new book. If you want one of my books I
have over 23,000 names in the book and it sells for $35.00 postpaid.

Let me know.

The only date I have for her is her marriage 25 November 1822 to

Hi Robert, this will be short, it is late, I am tired and have to go to work
in the morning. Rebecca Narcissus Elder was the second wife of my
g-g-g-grandfather, Charles Elder. She was the widow of George Keener, the
dau. of Thomas Bryan and wife Nancy Cate, they had two children Charles
Thomas and Rebecca Narcissus Elder. Charles Thomas was named for his father
and grandfahter. Rebecca seems to have the name of Charles Elder's mother,
Rebecca (Cates) Elder wife of William Elder. Both went to Madison Co AL,
both were married in Madison Co Al. I think I have the Shrader children but
that is not easy to find at this time, perhaps I can grab it this weekend.
Both the great granddaughter and great grandson of Charles and Rebecca are
living, one in Huntsville Al the other in CA. I do have photos of Charles
Thomas and one of Rebecca and "Andy" Shrader, I think I have given the
photo's away but have the negatives put up. I had photo. negs. made from
the old pictures a few years ago. Will try to get to this, I am on another
"hunt" at the moment. Rachel has another descendant in Huntsville, last
name is Norwood, Frances Norwood. I helped her when she had a query in the
ETHS or Smoky Mountian News. The last address I have on her was Dec. 1988,
how long has this gone on???? If you will contact me I will send you her
address.

Hey! Thanks for writing. Yes, we are connected. No hurry. I'll file your
name and put a little bug in your ear from time to time. I have some old
Shrader photos scanned into my computer. If you know how to bring them up on
the screen, I can email them to you.

Lee, you sent me this once before. Some of this information is from
information that the late Kendrick Elder and/or I gave you previously.
You state that Martha (Patsy) was married with 3 daughters before she
married William (Billy). They were married 5 August 1810. The 1850
census gives their ages as Billy age 66 and Patsy age 55 or 66--it is
hard to read. 1860 census gives Billy as age 77 and Patsy as age 67.
The 1860 census suggests her birth year as 1793. That made her getting
married at age 13. I don't think she could have had 3 daughters before
then. The 1840 census also suggests that Patsy was born about 1793.
However the 1830 census has her 10 years older. Since all but the 1830
census lead me to believe her birth was ca 1793, I think that the census
taker, for that year, just checked the wrong box.
Where did you get the information that Martha/Patsy was married before
and who were the daughters that she brought into this marriage?
Thanks, Diane Elder elder@presys.com

Hi to all, I have one for Robert L. Williams about Rachel N. (Bryan) Keener
who married (2) Charles Elder whose (1) was Elizabeth Underwood. I have the
will of Thomas Bryan, in his will he mentions his dau. Rachel ELDER, her two
dau's. and one son. If you would like a copy of the will sent me your snail
mail. This will names all of his children and wives. The Bryans were
witnesses to the will of Samuel Elder who died in Sevier Co TN, they
withdrew as executors and I do not know why. But I wonder if Samuel's wife
was Hannah BRYAN ELDER??? O.K. it follows the pattern of the older wills.
Thomas Bryan's will 1867 signed by Thomas Bryan, Signed in the presence of
Perry Cate, Thomas Drennin (not a Cate or Bryan) and Elisha P. (Porter)
CATE. You will please note on this will: "A true copy from the original
signed by the Sevier County Clerk of the Court."
(Will Bk. 1, p. 109, Sevier Co., TN.) If you would like a copy I have two or
three I made today.

If you want the address of the lady in AL whose ancestor is Rachel N.
(Bryan) Keener ELDER please contact me at my address. Ann

I'm back, Rob do you and Heather know where Rachel N. (Bryan) Keener Elder
is buried, let me know, I think we got off of her name and hit Rebecca. No
your talking about Rebecca N. Elder the dau. of Rachel and Charles Elder.
Sorry. It is easy to get confused this time of day. I've only been home a

Subject: [Elder-News]: Allen Elder

From: Bob and Diane Elder <elder@presys.com>
Date: Sat, 14 Feb 1998 14:00:49 -0800

JIm, Here is the promised information of Allen Morgan Elder, son of
William/Billy and Martha/Patsy Elder.
Born March 4, 1824 in Overton County, Tennessee, he married Elizabeth J.
Proctor in 1865 in Talbot County, GA. He was a member of the Kentucky
Calvary. After his service he traveled south to Georgia and wed Miss
Proctor. I have no idea how he met her or exactly why he went to
Georgia. Allen and his brother, John Morton Elder lived in Albany, KY
(just across the border from TN) and operated a store there in 1850.
Allen and Elizabeth were parents of:
Willis, Anna, Bertha, Mattie, Gertrude, Zach, Bettie and Paul. These
were listed in the family in the 688 Militia District, Talbot County, GA
census taken on June 16, 1880. After that date Bertha was born for a
total of nine children.
They moved back to Tennessee after 1880 and there Allen died. He is
buried in the Government Cemetery near Byrdstown, TN. He died in
Pickett County, TN on January 10, 1898.
I have gathered this information from descendants, census records and
personal records. I have photographs of Allen's headstone. They are
not very good because the area was very shady both times I was there!
Elizabeth and some of the children moved to Texas after his death and
that is where she is buried. I believe in Karnes, County, TX. She died
after 1918. If you have any information to add to this, I will be glad
to get it. Also, any more information on this branch of the Elder
family. I do have birth dates for some of Allen's children and some of
their spouses. Thanks, Diane
