found:
Joseph Nathaniel Witt 1750–1819
Birth 1750 • Halifax, Halifax, Virginia, United States
Death 14 NOV 1819 • Jefferson, Tennessee, United States
I believe this JOSEPH WITT may have been in the same
DUMPLIN CHURCH as ROBERT ELDER (1782- 1863),
whose 2nd wife is listed as "MRS. MARY [_} WITT (1809-1866)".
Joseph is listed on Page 96 of the book "FAMILIES NAMED ELDER IN EAST TENNESSEE."
Title of the Page mentioning JOSEPH WITT,
is about "DUMPLIN BAPTIST CHURCH, Dumplin Community, Jefferson County, Tennessee."
Book is posted on Google Documents (public access):

ELDER kit #10042 matches several descendants’ kits from this book,

Using Google, I found more about JOSEPH WITT (1849-1819)

From VA to NC to TN ….and a mention of DUMPLIN CHURCH
….
“There are no censuses available for Jefferson County until 1830.
There is, however, a tax list for 1800 and later tax lists for 1822 and subsequent years. In Captain Carson’s company in 1800, Joseph Witt appears with 160 acres and one white poll, indicating that no sons were yet 21. Carson’s company, of less than 100 polls, included the town of Dandridge as well as the Dumplin Church and most of its congregation. The next available tax list in 1822 contains only the name of his son John Witt.
…”John Witt, with one white poll and 160 acres, is the only member of the family on the 1822 tax list of Jefferson County. His father’s widow and all his brothers and sisters had already moved away. Sarah Witt, Patsy Witt, Mourning Witt, and Sarah Witt (the wife of James Witt) had all requested and received letters of dismissal from the Dumplin Creek Church in early 1821 just prior to their sale of the inherited land.”
