Greetings to all

I am newly registered having found the board at Donna Logan's web I think. I am retired United Methodist Clergy (wife also) living in Champaign/Urbana home of the FIGHTING ILLINI! Plus a nice town and great school. Have 3 grown children and 3 grandchildren. The kids are all men living in Decatur Ill (works for Park District), Alexandria, Va. (works for Department of Human Services on Mall), and Chenoa, Ill. north of Bloomington Ill. James Joseph, Mark David, and Andrew Thomas.

I have been working on family for almost 40 years. But not able to do it on more sustained basis until now. And I have had some nice results since we arrived back in C/U (was here before in churches). Recently made another trip to Berea Ky. looking for whatever dead folk I could find. Visited college, had some indications of Burial places. I did find the Cochran Cemetery on top of a hill in the midst of a cow pasture where Andrew and Lucinda are buried. Census indicates he was born in N.C. which is throwing me considerably. She was born in Virginia and blind when 1850 census taken. I have been in hopes the line went to Penn. with much info about all of those folks. Some indication his dad was a Matthew (thinking son of Andrew Elder and Margaret Collier) back to Matthew and Mary Kincannon Elder. But as I said, the N.C. birth is a problem. At present, no info on his father. Andrew's birth was 1786. Their children: The 1850 census confirms most of kids I have including one Anderson Elder my ggg grandfather. He married Francis Ann Newton Elder. The moved from Lancaster to Berea. When he died, buried almost literaly out the back door in field (I have been there). She moved to Hancock County Ill. where several of their kids had gone. I have her obit and looking for grave. Indicated she was buried in Dever Cemetery, Denver Ill. I have been there but couldn't find her. There were some Todd and Elder marriages and others buried there also including one of her sons Sam whom she lived with, according to info and Census for about 20 years. Some of these folk went off to Nodaway County Mo. One of Elder women m. Todd visited there and died brought back to Denver Cemetery. My gg grandfather and another son James W. moved to Villa Grove Ill which is just south of C/U about 20 miles and my hometown. I have his grave and wife. There were 4 sons and daughter one my grandfather Andrew. Not sure why he came there but were some folks who came ahead I think. Farming and railroad town. So, I am stuck again with this N.C. thing. I envy so many who have been able to visit the court houses etc. which I need to do more but not so easy for me. But will plug away. If anyone can help, it would be much appreciated of course. I am happy to share anything. Thanks!
