I'm looking for information on the parents of Ava Elder. Here are some of the details I have on her.

Ava Elder b 1803(?) Jefferson County, TN
died 1867 Meigs County, TN
Married Daniel Cate b 18 Nov 1796 Jefferson County TN
died in 1856 Meigs County, TN
married 1819 Jefferson County

I think her dad's name is Robert and mom is Sarah Moore but I don't have any proof. I have her listed on the 1850 and 1860 census.

Any help would be appreciated. I'd be happy to share info too.

Wow! I've been working alot on this family lately!

I've been talking to LEE ELDER, who lists AVA ELDER and DANIEL
CATE on page 6 of his book about "PETER ELDER of VA" genealogy.

However, I believe Ava's father, Robert ELDER (m. Sarah Moore),
b. 1782 VA - d. 1863 Meigs Co TN,
and his father SAMUEL B. ELDER d. 1811 SEVIER CO TN, are
really part of the DNA group which I named "FRANKLIN CO PA",
which matches my brother's DNA.

Lee ELDER did receive most of his info about SAMUEL and his
descendants from ANN ELDER BROOKS POE,
who died in 2004. She left us copies of many of her papers,
and documents she had sent to others as well.
She also helped 2 of her male ELDER cousins to complete their
Y-DNA kits, which also match my brother's DNA.

Lee ELDER's book says:
"AVA and DANIEL CATE are buried in Upper Goodfield Cem.
She was perhaps named for Ava Wilhite who married Thomas Cate.
Mathias Wilhite owned land adjoining that of Robert Elder.
In the front of the Goodfield Baptist Church minute book is a tribute to Ava (Elder) Cate written one year after her death.
It says that she was a member of the Baptist church for forty years.
Ava and Daniel had 18 children, six of whom died young. Daniel is son of John Cate, Jr....Ava and Daniel moved to the present Meigs Co TN about 1825 and settled one mile north of Decatur, according to the Chattanooga Times, 1-24-1917.

I'll see if I can find any more documents about Ava and Daniel
in the papers I have from ANN ELDER BROOKS POE.

PostPosted: Sun Dec 23, 2007 12:44 am    Post subject: AVA ELDER in book: "FAMILIES NAMED ELDER IN EAST TENNES Reply with quote

Now I'm looking in the book "FAMILIES NAMED ELDER IN EAST TENNESSEE"
by Virginia Knight Nelson, sent to me by Ken PARENT of VA.

Ava ELDER is indexed for page: 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 16

Page 7: "Samuel Elder who died about 1811 is thought to have come to what is now Tennessee from Virginia. It is estimated that he may hav been born about 1760 or earlier, since his son Robert was probably born in 1732. According to both the 1850 and 1860 censuses, Robert Elder was born
in Virginia. In the biographical sketch of James Calvin Cate
(page 18 ) which appears in HISTORY OF PONTOTOC COUNTY, OKLAHOMA (1976), he said that the parents of his mother, who was Ava ELDER, daughter of Robert, were
of Irish descent and of Southwest Virginia."

Page 9: "After moving to the present Meigs County, Robert Elder, his
daughter Ava, and Ava's husband, Daniel Cate, were among the organizing members of Goodfield Baptist Church (p. 100 - ref: Goodfield Bapt.Church)

P. 11 (Another list: Ava Elder (1802-1867) mar. Daniel Cate (1796-1858)

p. 13 (Same portrait of Robert ELDER (1782?-1863)
INFO RE: Slave named Rachel
"Several years later Robert gave Rachel to his daughter Ava Cate...."

p. 15 (has the quote about Ava Elder being named for Ava Wilhite)
also says:
"The index for Jefferson County, Tennessee Marriages and Bonds, 1792-1840 (WPA, 1936), lists bond No. 1451, dated
15 February 1819, as that of Daniel Cate and A. Elder, but those
names are not on the bond recorded in the book. However,
information on bond No. 1453 is missing from the book, so perhaps it
was the bond for Daniel and Ava."

Page 16: More about their children... Do you need a scan of that
page?

Page 17: More about CATE children...Lou Ava Cate b. ca. 1862

2007 - ELDER DNA ANALYSIS finds differences in ELDER lines.
“Robert Elder, Rev. War Soldier of Path Valley, died Franklin County, Pennsylvania, and
was born near Perth, on the Tay, Scotland…about 1730″
–ELDER HISTORY.

Looking at the “PETER ELDER” list, (Jacob, page 27)
where the DNA kits for descendants of
“SAMUEL ELDER d. 1811 Meigs Co TN” [Sevier Co TN]
ARE NOT MATCHING DNA of 4 “PETER ELDER” kits:

SAMUEL’s descendants have
4 MATCHES with “FRANKLIN CO PA”
(using authoritative PA kits, 20 kits total are matching)

see Tennessee, Kentucky and Arkansas matches to FRANKLIN CO PA:
“WILLIAM ELDER” b. 1780 m. Rebecca Cate as
Ancestor of Ann ELDER POE,
(ELDER DNA kits #13706, #23663 as Sevier Co TN)= “Franklin Co PA”

his brother
“John S. ELDER” b. 1782 m. Nancy Sullins as
Ancestor of John Silas ELDER b. 1845 TN d. 1913 AR = “Franklin Co PA”
(ELDER DNA kit #85035)

his brother
“Jacob ELDER” d. 1818 KY as
