The first known of this line is John Elder who died abt 1740 in Anne Arundel, Md.
1707 he was assigned a warrent for 57 acres on the Patuxant River by John Lazwell. Elder patented the land as "Laxford"
Also purchased: "Duvall's Delight" (100 acres) from John Duvall; and "Addition to Huntington Quarter" (334 acres) assigned by Joshua Dorsey and Henry Ridgely, and patented by Elder. Both in Anne Arundel County.
November 1739 — Elder conveyed 150 acres (parts of Laxford and Addition to Huntington Quarter) to son John Elder Jr.
Attended St. Anne's Church, Annapolis, served as Church warden in 1729 & 1737; with son John Jr. they occupied pew 25.
Will— written 29 Dec 1740; filed 11 Mar 1740/41; witnessed by: Richard Daviss, Orlando Griffith, Edward Penn and Catherine Scott. bequeathed to following children:
James—41 acres "Laxford" & 100 acres "Duvall's Delight"
Charles— 100 acres "Addition of Huntington's Quarter"
Residue to: Alexander, James, Charles, & Mary.
John first "partner" Elizabeth. No proof of marriage has been found. It could possibly be a common law marriage.
They had one child:

On 19 Oct 1708 John married Mary Morris (St. Anne's, Parish Register) in Anne Arundel, Maryland. Mary died bef 1740 in Anne Arundel, Maryland.
They had the following children:
3 i. Alexander (1711-1762)
4 ii. James (-~1767)
5 iii. Charles (-<1752)
6 iv. Mary
