Sir George ELDER, born in PARISH of KILLEARNAN, "near the Castle of Kilcoy," north of Inverness
see:
https://wiki.familysearch.org/en/Killearnan,_Ross_&_Cromarty,_Scotland
Parish of Killearnan, in the County of Ross & Cromarty, Scotland
From FamilySearch Wiki-Parish # 68
KILLEARNAN..."General Sir George Elder was born in this parish, of humble but respectable parents, near the Castle of Kilcoy.
By his merits alone, he overcame all difficulties, and raised himself to his distinguished rank and station."

KILCOY CASTLE photos and history
at
http://mywalkabout.net/scotland/castles/kilcoy.html
"Kilcoy Castle is situated about eight miles from Inverness
at the western end of the Black Isle.
The property was acquired in 1618 by
Alexander MacKenzie the fourth son of the eleventh
MacKenzie laird of Kintail.
The tower was probably built soon after this, but the
ornate fireplace lintel bears the date 1679.
The present owners of Kilcoy Castle, Mr and Mrs Nick McAndrew, have made some changes in the content and lay-out of the grounds.
Like the Robinsons before them, they too open the gardens periodically to the public. "

Sir George ELDER (in book "Brave Sons of Skye") - transcribed and posted
at
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nancyelder/ed/Skye2.htm
"Although Sir George Elder was not born in "Eilean a Cheo [ISLE OF SKY],"
he is claimed as a Skye soldier, because of the long and honourable connection of his family with the parish of Sleat, and because it was from Skye he joined the army, his inherent military genius having doubtless received not a little stimulus from the warlike spirit which prevailed in the island at that time."
" The Elders had fighting blood in their veins from both sides of the house, ancestors of theirs (Stuart and Elder) having fought at Culloden on the side of the Prince.
Sir George Elder was a soldier born, and efforts which were made to prevent his going to the army were in vain.
He was appointed as an Ensign in the 46th Foot on the 27th of November, 1799..."
