Hi folks,
A new member registration was posted by
"JAMES EDWARD ELDER III", from Houston, Texas.

When I searched Google.com, I found his family has also registered
an interesting ELDER HERALDRY graphic,
with a Seahorse - very different!

Here's the Afro-American Crest, posted by "James Edward Elder III," for his father.

Y-DNA = E-M2. (African west coast). No other ELDER matching.
Origin probably from Africa > Virginia > Louisiana, of PETER ELDER slaves.

Nancy's notes:
Meanings:
http://www.americancollegeofheraldry.org/achsymbols.html
(still working)
"In Heraldry, a seahorse is depicted as a creature with the foreparts of a horse and the hindparts of a fish. See, for example, the right supporter of the Isle of Wight Arms, the supporters on either side of the crest of the city of Newcastle upon Tyne, or the coincidental arms of the University of Newcastle, Australia.

(Still working --6/15/2017)

The seahorse is prominent in the logo of Waterford Crystal
and the logotype of illustrator W. W. Denslow.

More meanings:
Sea horse - Power of the water
Black (Sable) -Constancy or grief
Red (Gules): - Warrior or martyr; Military strength and magnanimity
Lymphad -- Ship -Ancient sea voyages
Wavy Line - Sea or water
Label - Indicates first-born.
More "Label" meanings:

Differences or Marks of Cadency are used in heraldry to distinguish the various branches or cadets of one family. In order of age, the following apply:
1st son - Label
"The label was a decorative piece of fabric, usually silk.
It was a popular trimming for dress and decor during the Middle Ages.
In heraldry, it is represented by a narrow band across the top of the shield, edged by another band from which three short bars hang down.
Lately the bars have been drawn more like dovetails, like triangles inserted point first into the lower band. In English arms a label was a mark of difference indicating that the bearer was the eldest son and heir.
Some labels on coats of arms can be traced to this origin."
