This is the title of a small, blue book I own. It was given to me by my father. The David Elder of the book is my ggggrandfather. He was born May 1, 1798 in Tath Valley, Franklin Co. PA and died August 18, 1885 in Alexis, Ill. His wife was Isabella Latta Wray. She was born Feb 3, 1798 and died March 25, 1877. Her father was James Wray and he came to America c.1795 His mother was said to be a cousin of Robert Burns
Are there any other Elder clan out there who are from this line? Would love to hear from you sometime.

Interesting that Donna Logan's database lists Isabella and David with PETER ELDER group. Looks like
a good candidate for DNA project!

I was interested to find this ELDER article in the current issue of
"Mists of Moigh," the Clan Mackintosh of North America Newsletter,
August 2005, page 6. (Full Transcription)
"Focus on the Septs - Elder Genealogy"
By Shelly Nauman
She writes:
"Having recently joined Clan Mackintosh, I felt compelled to share my
research that has resulted in a very large database containing
descendants of the original ELDERS who came to the Colonies in 1656.
The first three "Elders" were John and his younger brothers David
and Daniel. John indentured for 10 years to pay for the three
orphans' passages from London to the Norfolk port in 1656. David and
Daniel then traveled to Maine, but later returned to the PA and NY
areas to live. John stayed in Norfolk, and is listed as a landowner
on page 35 of "Book Year '0-6' of the Kings Colonies of Norfolk and
Princess Anne Counties of Virginia." The names John and David were
used in each family and become quite confusing to refer to. There
also exisists a John Elder who came to America later in the mid 1700s
and settled in California. This is not the same line of these
Elders. The original Elders all lived and settled in the areas of
PA, NY and VA, migrating to Iowa and Illinois where they are also
recorded as first land owners, and eventually spreading to as far
"west" as MO. My father and his sisters came to Colorado after
WWII.
"I have a genealogical outline of 20 generations of these original
Elders. Anyone wishing copies from me directly with dates and places
included may contact me; I will need my cost and postage covered. I
also have a copy of the original print: "David and Isabella Elder and
Those Who Came After Them," by Orville Elder, Washington/Iowa print,
1928. There are only a few in print, but it contains formal
genealogical lineage, photos, stories and letters written pre 1928.
The outline includes names of all, but does not contain dates or
places of those other than my direct lineage.
"Since the original John, David and Daniel were noted as "orphans"
leaving the London port in 1656, I have not been able to verify their
direct lineage in Scotland. My research leads to Eldar or Eldare de
Corstorfin who was burgess of Edinburgh in 1423. Elder is derived
from the Old English word "eldra" literally meaning "elder" refering
to the elder of two or more bearers of the same first name."
" I also have a graphic of David Clark Elder (May 1, 1798-August
18, 1885) and of the Elder family crest. Anyone who can share
verified pre-colonies information is encouraged to do so."
