I am searching for ancestors or descendants of an Elder line from Upstate New York:

Robert ELDER and Hannah FLOYD emigrated from Ireland to Jefferson Co., NY, c. 1818. According to several sources, Robert was a weaver. The Elders first settled in Watertown, NY, where they were joined by another Irish family, headed by John MULLIN, also a weaver. Over the next 4 decades of his life, Robert Elder moved around a great deal, mostly in Jefferson County: in 1820, Rodman, NY; in 1830, LeRay, NY; in 1840, Watertown, NY again; and in 1850, Camden, Oneida Co., NY. He died in 1855 and was buried in Huntingtonville Rural cemetery, along with his wife, who died in 1864, and a man I presume was his father, James Elder (d. 1855, age 96). Robert and Hannah had at least three children, James and Margaret, and Matthew.

James ELDER (b. 9 Jun 1820, Watertown; d. 6 Feb 1891, Volney, NY) married Eliza Jane MCBRIDE (b. abt 1825 (father b. NY; mother b. Ireland)) on 12 April 1841. They were married by Rev. Fields, "a minister of the Gospel" without a church. Like his father, James also worked as a weaver (he was described as a "boss weaver and spinner") in Watertown. After enlisting from Dexter into Co. H, 94th NYVI, he served as band leader the regimental band in 1862. After his return from service, he was involved in the Watertown town band. He and his family moved to Fulton, Oswego Co., not long after the war. In Fulton, he ran a restaurant and lead the Fulton town band. He died in 1881.

Margaret ELDER, married Samuel GREAVES, an English immigrant who settled in Watertown. According to an unverified source, they met while singing in the choir.

Matthew ELDER (b. abt 1840, Jefferson Co.; d. 8 Jan 1900, Glens Falls, Warren Co., NY) enlisted in the Civil War from Dexter in Co. K, 94th NYVI. Like James, he also served in the regimental band in 1862. After working as a mason's apprentice in Watertown, he relocated to Fort Edward, Washington Co., NY around 1876. Like James, Matthew was involved in music all of his life, serving as the leader of the town band for Glens Falls, NY. Matthew married Harriet BRISTOL (b. Mar 1861, Fort Edward, NY; d. 12 Dec 1926). They are both buried in Union Cemetery, Fort Edward, NY.

I don't see any of these NY locations
in my ELDER files, but I could
try to find more about them.
Some of the similar names might have been
relatives of the ELDER families in
PA, e.g. ROBERT, MATTHEW...
Will look for more clues today.
