I am trying to locate my Elder linage and I need help.

ANNIE VIOLA ELDER, my g-grandmother, born Nov. 17, 1842, Livermore Boro, Derry Township, Westmoreland Co., Pennsylvania. She spoke of being raised on a plantation in KY and riding on her father’s river boat. She came to CA with her mother and sister Emma about 1871. She met and married my g-grandfather Arthur C. Fleming in San Leandro, CA, Sept. 28, 1872.

Annie’s mother:
The former Fannie Davis or Mary Davis was born in Kentucky. She married Mr. Brown second and Mr. Curtois third. A family bible page has Annie’s mother’s name as FANNIE CURTOYS (CURTOIS) b: Aug. 28, 1814; d: Sept. 06, 1888 in San Francisco, CA. .

Annie’s father:
James Elder, b:November 22, 1795 in PA.

Annie's siblings:
Emma Elder b: abt 1854, Illlinois or Indiana, married James D. Faris Aug 1, 1873, Florence, Los Angeles Co., CA. James was born abt 1848 in Illinois.

Two brothers Harry and Charlie Elder.

Questionable items:

I can not find Annie Viola Elder anywhere, especially in census reports between 1842 and 1880.

I am questioning both first and last name of FANNIE CURTOYS, as there is a 1880 census which listed an M. Brown, age 64, as mother to Annie. She first married Elder then Brown and lastly Curtois.

My cousin gave me the following descendant tree report for my Elder line. I have found John N Elder and Mary Dougherty numerous times but I can not make one verification that Annie Viola Elder is their grandchild. I like to triple verify each person but I can not make one verification.

Descendant tree: (the link to Thomas and John is very speculative)

1 Thomas Elder b: Whitedeer Township, Northumberland Co., Pennsylvania
......2 John Nesbit Elder b: 1762, Austin Co., Pennsylvania d: January 19, 1835, Salona, Pennsylvania
..........+Mary Dougherty b: November 1766 d: December 30, 1848
..............3 James Elder b: November 22, 1795
..................+Fannie (Mary) Davis b: September 16, 1814 d: September 06, 1888, San Francisco, California
.....................4 Annie Viola Elder b: November 17, 1842 d: September 20, 1917
.....................4 Emma Elder b: abt 1854 in Illinois or Indiana
.....................4 Charlie Elder
.....................4 Harry Elder

Hi Forrest,
We've talked before about the possible Westmoreland connections, but haven't
found them in our files as yet.

I didn't remember the "Austin" and Salona location clues before, so
looked around PA for possible places.
search: A Town of Austin, PA, found in Potter County, PA
Search 1860 census for ELDER in Potter Co PA, found:
Name: ELDER, William R.
Age: 44
Census: - 1860 Census for Potter Co., PA (Harrison Twp. district)
Birthplace: MA
Potter county Genweb:
http://www.eg.bucknell.edu/~hyde/potter

Salona, PA found in Clinton Co PA
Clinton Co PA Genweb here:
http://www.kcnet.org/~history

Maybe this is where we connect the MA and PA lines!

Searching "SALONA" in Townships of Clinton Co PA (Genweb):
http://cub.kcnet.org/~history/Past&Pres53-.html
"Lamar township contains three villages — Salona, Mackeyville and Rote."

Another interesting township in Clinton Co PA:
"Bald Eagle township was one of the twelve original townships into which Clinton county was formed, when organized, in 1839. Since that time it has been diminished in size by the forming of other townships, until it now contains but a small portion of its original territory. The township is now bounded on the north by Grugan and Colebrook, on the east by Allison and Lamar, on the south by Lamar and Beech Creek, and on the west by Beech Creek township."

"Bald Eagle" was originally in Centre Co PA - -
Abraham ELDER , who moved from Franklin Co PA, had a sawmill there--
I've posted some info about him here:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~nancyelder/ed/AbrahamElder.htm
and
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~nancyelder/ed/Simler.htm
"ABRAHAM ELDER, from FRANKLIN COUNTY, PA, settled in Half-Moon Twp., near Bald Eagle, PA. "
...
"He put up on the run near his house a saw-mill, carried on a distillery, and erected a grist-mill in Bald Eagle valley, near Port Matilda, on the site of the Woodring saw-mill."...
From his tavern Mr. Elder contructed a roadway over the Ridge into Bald Eagle valley, and by that route took in his supplies and held communication with his mill.
...
...."Robert [ELDER] and Isabella resided in Woomer settlement in Bald Eagle, Pa. "...
"Isabella Woomer Elder is buried in Bald Eagle Cemetery next to her parents
Samuel and Elizabeth (Miller) Woomer. "

Donna[][I just can not find James, Annie and Emma anywhere prior to 1871. I found a letter dated 1964 where James was said to own and operate a steamboat. ]
