I am grandson of Lucinda Love Elder (ca. 1866-1933) wife of Joseph Samuel Robinson of Charlotte, NC. Lucinda's death certificate lists William Elder as father, mother unknown. Lucinda was born in Spartanburg Co., SC, had two sisters and one brother. I would appreciate her father's and mother's ancestry and where they came from. Best regards! ELDER'S: Remember why this was started was due to the continuous "mix up" of the ELDERS from SC, NC & TN. Someone had asked before to have the deeds posted and we are getting there. "George Story's will, dated March 11, 1800, Spartanburg County, bequeathed "to my daughter Margaret Elder, negro girl Sall" (Brent H. Holcomb, Spartanburg County, South Carolina, Will Abstracts, 1787-1840 (1983),p.102)

"The ELDERS had heard of the hostility of the Indians, so they decided to remain for a while at the Campbell's Station settlement in west Knox County, where there was a fort for their protection. A few miles away at Cavett's Station a number of settlers had been massacred by a Cherokee war party in the fall of 1793." VKN

"After a time the ELDERS in Knox County made plans to move on to Kentucky by way of the Tennessee River. "The boat which they built for the trip was small and crowded. They would land at night and camp on shore. At Muscle Shoals where the big power plant is built, the river makes a horseshoe bend. As they ran the rapids the centrifugal force tended to throw the boat against the rock shore on the outer curve. The men turned to bow of the boat toward midstream and rowed with all their might to keep off the rocks. They descended the thirty miles rapids in thirty minutes. The encyclopedia says the fall is 134 feet in 37 miles."*

NOTE: Although the Spartanburg County Elders named above may have been related to Peter and Ephraim Elder who were also in early Spartanburg County, South Carolina, nothing which showed a connection was found in extant records."VKN

"By 1800 the families of John and William ELDER were living in Livingston County, Kentucky. John Elder perhaps died before 1800; the Livingston County, Kentucky tax list includes George, James, Mary, Robert and William Elder".VKN " Not the William Elder who resided in Jefferson Co TN.aebp. Mary was perhaps the widow of John, and James and Robert are thought to have been sons of John. James ELDER (1781-1847) is buried in Livingston Cemetery (now Caldwell County, Kentucky). VKN & aebp

"John's daughter Mary ELDER married a WHEELER. She was thirteen years old when her parents left South Carolina." Talitha (ELDER) Aaron, "Elder (no date about 1850) Her book is primarily about her ancestors Samuel ELDER (b.1790), Spartanburg Co., South Carolina) in 1808 in South Carolina and later migrated to Illinois, where he was the first county judge of Saline County. Talitha (ELDER) Aaron (b. 1876 taught school in Eldorado, Illinois, for many years." vkn Talitha (ELDER) Aaron had very few sources. aebp.
____________________________________________________________________________________
The 1810 census for Livingston County, Kentucky, includes Peggy ELDER, over 45, and her family and one slave. Petty Elder may have been the widow of William ELDER and the daughter of George Story. Two of William Elder's daughters were married in Knox County; Mary to George Mayes and Hannah to David Hill. William Elder's youngest son, Samuel C., settled in Gallatin County, Illinois. According to that county's census, Samuel C. ELDER was age 59 in 1850".
