Notes for Basil Dorsey Elder Dr. |
Family story states that they had one other child who only lived 6 months. He had a brother that lived near Moundsville, W. Va. Attended Rush Medical College ; Chicago, Ill. for the school year- 1855-1856. But that was the only year that he attended. I have a copy of his admission card to the schools lectures. I wrote to the Archives dept. of the college and their research showed that he did attend that year but did not graduate and that was the only year that he was there.
Last address: 335 4th ave. , Huntington, W. Va. Only 6 of his children were alive in 1917 according to his obit. Only 3 children were alive in 1940 according to Lucinda's obit.
Attended St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Huntington.
Source: 'Cabell Co. Annals and Families' Pg. 241: " In early 1890 W. D. Elder and C.S. Welch, his brother-in-law, secured some land from the Holderby's and established a shale brick plant on what is now the west side of 16th street just north of the boulevard. The business was incorporated on Aug 11, 1891, as the Huntington Paving and Building Brick Company. In the next year the company secured a franchise and built a spur track from the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad to its new plant. This company manufactured a superior paving brick but suffered in the panic of 1893-97 and ceased business." ??
Could Florence have met John E. Puckett while he possibly worked for this company. When did John E. and wife move to Richmond?? |
